DRINKING TOO MUCH?
Hurley Health uses fitness and recovery coaching to lay the foundation for finding whole health as you define it. No matter where you fall on the substance use spectrum: whether you are a gray area drinker who wants to cut down on or take a break from drinking or someone with a substance use disorder who wants to embrace life-long abstinence (and everything in between!), Hurley Health can help you get there!
MY WHY
I founded Hurley Health because I know firsthand the impact that fitness has on the recovery process. When I started my own recovery in a 12-Step program over 23 years ago, the support I found and the connections I made there were huge, but I also needed to move by body in order to maintain my recovery. I started with walking, which soon became running. I eventually discovered yoga and strength training and all these years later I still layer fitness on top of my weekly meetings to stay “fit” in mind, body, and spirit.
I’ve been combining fitness and recovery support personally and professionally for a long time. I’ve worked in both clinical and non-clinical settings for addiction recovery as:
-
Executive Director of Minnesota Recovery Connection
-
Executive Director at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation
-
National Director for The Phoenix
Along the way I:
-
Co-created and delivered a recovery coach training for Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS),
-
Promoted ongoing recovery support
-
Helped expand a national organization that offers recovery support through fitness
Alongside my professional work in the field of addiction recovery over the last 12 years, I’ve developed my coaching skills through certifications and trainings in various fitness and health modalities including:
-
Personal Training
-
Kettlebells
-
Yoga
-
Nutrition
Now, as a person in long-term recovery from addiction, a trained peer recovery support specialist, and a certified personal trainer, I combine recovery coaching strategies with fitness to support people in their unique, ongoing recovery journeys.
